Infrastructure Opportunity

Wharf/Supply Base

  • The area of Cockatoo Island presents as capable of supporting the development of a large scale supply base, wharf and new airstrip.

  • Users might include:

    • Oil and Gas Industry (incl. international majors and their suppliers);

    • Border Force / Defence (Navy);

    • Aquaculture exporters; and

    • Tourism operators.

  • KTS is the proponent of such an endeavour and Pearl Gull Iron along with the State Government of Western Australia are in discussions as to how this might be pursued without prejudicing Pearl Gull Iron’s ability to mine iron ore on the island.
  • While this is not a business of Pearl Gull Iron, it and KTS are parties to an MOU to advance endeavours that offer economic benefits to both.
  • Key potential benefits for Pearl Gull Iron include:
    • The construction of Air Base operations would provide Pearl Gull with all weather aeroplane access to the island;
    • The progressive reduction of potential future mine closure costs and rehabilitation; and
    • The construction of new wharf and ship loading facility capable of supporting Pearl Gull Iron’s potential future operations

Projects

Projects of Pearl Gull Iron

Switch Pit

High grade haematite mineralisation can be observed on Pearl Gull’s Mining Lease, along strike from the historical Seawall mine in an area the Company has called Switch Pit. An exploration drilling program has commenced in this area.

North Bay

Interpretative work undertaken by Pearl Gull Iron has identified the potential for high-grade structural repeats on the northern side of the island. An exploration drilling program has commenced in this area where historically there has been no exploration, despite high grade haematite sands being clearly visible on the beach.

Magazine Pit

The Magazine Pit area is located in the southeast part of the tenement package and exploration in this area will target medium grade haematite suitable for beneficiation, as was undertaken previously on the island.
